ART THERAPIST & COUNSELOR

Faith Lyons, MA, LPC, ATR

I’m Faith (she/her), a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Professional Counselor based in Grand Rapids. My journey to becoming a therapist has been guided by a deep belief in the healing power of creativity. I believe that art has a special way of helping us express what words can’t, offering comfort and insight along the way. This passion for creativity naturally led me to pursue a career where I can combine my love for art with my desire to help others find their strengths and nurture compassion towards themselves and their experiences.

In my work, I aim to provide a compassionate and safe space where people can express themselves without judgment and explore the parts of themselves that need attention and care. I specialize in working with individuals navigating grief, anxiety, and identity concerns, with a particular focus on BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities. Whether working with youth or adults, I use a blend of Art Therapy and counseling to support each person’s unique path to healing and growth.

Education:

I’ve had the privilege of working as an Art Therapist and Counselor in private practice since 2021, providing a safe, compassionate space for individuals and groups to explore their emotions and experiences through creative expression. Before stepping into private practice, I worked closely with individuals touched by cancer—patients, families, caregivers, and friends—facilitating support groups that offered comfort and community during challenging times.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the honor of working with youth (ages 7+), adults, and groups, supporting them as they navigate life’s challenges, embrace change, and uncover their inner strength. My journey in the mental health field began in 2017 when I worked as support staff connecting people with therapists. This experience taught me just how vital it is to establish a genuine, trusting connection from the very first moment—and I carry that understanding with me in all of my work.
In addition, I spent time as a dedicated volunteer at The Children’s Center in Detroit, where I supported children and families in exploring creative expression and nurturing meaningful connections. These experiences deepened my understanding of the essential role that community plays in healing, and it continues to influence my work today.
Each step along my journey has shown me how important it is to create spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered. This commitment to creating a safe, empowering space guides how I support individuals as they navigate changes in their health, identities, and relationships—helping them embrace their creativity to nurture confidence in their ability to create positive change in their lives.

Values that Guide My Practice

A path to transformation.

What I enjoy most about this work is seeing people connect with their inner wisdom and creativity—helping them unlock new perspectives and gain the clarity needed to move forward with confidence. My approach isn’t about simply talking through problems; it’s about creating an experience where healing happens in unexpected ways. Art Therapy invites expression beyond words, and for many, this approach unlocks deeper emotional insight and a stronger connection to themselves.
